Before You Buy That Next RV
Have It Weighed Before You Pay For It!
WHEN CONSIDERING THE PURCHASE OF A NEW RV, ENSURE THAT IT HAS CARRYING CAPACITY TO MATCH YOUR REQUIREMENTS.
Although you may not be able to find a place to weigh it wheel by wheel, weigh each axle, then evaluate the location of storage areas, liquid tanks, major appliances, slide-out rooms, generator, LP gas tank, etc., to see if the distribution of these heavy components makes sense.
You must have a good knowledge of your personal weight carrying requirements. A few helpful figures; (pounds per gallon)
Water: 8.3
Gasoline: 5.6
Diesel Fuel: 6.8
Propane: 4.2
As you calculate your requirements, keep in mind that EVERYTHING you put in the RV has weight. The average couple carries approximately 2,000 pounds of "stuff", while the average full-time couple carries an average of 3,000 pounds.
Remember, selection of the proper RV for your
unique needs is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!
When you buy a pair of shoes, you don't buy an 8 if you wear a 10! Know what
your "size" (carrying requirement) is BEFORE you start shopping, and verify that
the proposed RV meets your needs.
